Confidence

Is Self-Doubt Stopping Your Kid From Performing Onstage Or In The Classroom?

It starts with nervous energy. Self-doubt. Fear takes over on stage or in the classroom. But The Spotlight Project changes that. You’ll watch your child’s voice grow stronger each week. Their body language shifts. Their confidence builds—not just on stage, but in every room they walk into.

WHAT'S HAPPENING WHILE YOUR CHILD WAITS

Self-Doubt Takes Over

Nervous energy builds before stepping on stage. As the lights come on, fear floods in. Voice gets smaller. Body freezes. Confidence disappears. The talent's there. Fear is louder.

Confidence Takes Over

After 6 weeks of intensive training, nervous energy transforms into presence. As the lights come on, your child commands the stage. Voice gets stronger. Body language shifts. Confidence shines through. The talent is there. Now everyone sees it.

WHAT THEY’LL EXPERIENCE

At The Spotlight Project, we recognize and celebrate that the theatre experience begins in the classroom but culminates on stage. Here is your chance to show what you have learned, to add a new dimension to your creative experience, and to grow as a performer.

You’ll spend six weeks in theatre training and stagecraft within a supportive creative community. Class is where you develop skills, unlock your creative voice, and build real confidence. The showcase is where you show what you’ve learned and celebrate the transformation with your community.

If We Haven’t Met Yet…

Hi, I'm Morie!

A “Triple Threat” is an industry label for someone who can sing, dance, and act. My childhood exposure to the arts provided an outlet for me to thrive, eventually opening doors and allowing me to perform my way across seven continents and hundreds of countries. Theatre-based education during my early and formative years was key.

I’m honored to partner with the City of San Diego, the North Park Recreation Center, and gifted student teaching artists to provide The Spotlight Project to develop and nourish young talent.

Whether an absolute beginner or an aspiring PRO, we’ve got something for everyone.

A creative arts organization dedicated to training young performers and mentoring the next generation of artists.

Committed to providing accessible, affordable arts education and enrichment programs for all youth.

The Bishop’s School

Providing mentorship and collaboration from student teachers who are passionate about sharing their love of theatre.

Questions About Spotlight Project

The Spotlight Project is a program targeted towards 3rd-5th grade students!

Classes will be centered around games and creative projects designed to hone students’ theatrical prowess and stagecraft skills. The first few classes will provide a good introduction and ensure they have a range of tools at their disposal, which will be built on and utilized as they move forward to create one or more group skits.

One of the many benefits of theater training is the growth that accompanies putting yourself out there and expressing your creative side. You will also not be alone in these feelings, as countless people, ourselves included, have unavoidably felt (and still feel) this way before shows or rehearsals. The only way to become more comfortable is by stepping out of your comfort zone, and in doing so, becoming your most confident self.

Yes! The 6 week intensive will culminate in a final showcase where students can show off everything they learned and created in the class. This will primarily take the form of a collaborative skit that the students will create over the span of 6 weeks.

We strongly encourage parents to show up and support their kids in the final showcase! However, we prefer to keep rehearsals more private (just students and the teaching team) to help foster a low pressure environment where every student feels fully comfortable to express themselves creatively.

After the showcase on the last day, we will have a small cast party to celebrate everything the students have learned and accomplished!

At just $199 for six weeks ($66.33 per payment), this is accessible to families at all income levels. We also offer scholarships for families in need—cost is never a barrier to participation.

You’ll participate in a celebration cast party with all the students and teachers. We’ll reflect on your growth and celebrate what you’ve accomplished together.

Life happens! We understand that kids sometimes miss rehearsals due to illness, family events, or other commitments. The most important thing is that your child shows up and participates when they can. We encourage consistent attendance so students build relationships and learn the material, but we work with families on a case-by-case basis if absences occur. Contact us directly if you have concerns about attendance.

Rehearsals are a creative and sometimes vulnerable space for young performers, so we keep those private—just the students and teaching team. However, the final showcase performance is a celebration that families and the community are invited to attend! This is where you’ll see your child perform what they’ve learned and truly step into the spotlight. It’s a joyful, supportive event that honors each performer’s growth.
